To set the scene, we heard from the Quality of Existing Homes Group who explored the key issues currently facing the sector relating to existing stock, safety and compliance, quality of homes and portfolio management. This was followed by practical breakout sessions, led by fantastic speakers, covering everything from customer satisfaction to modern methods of construction, as well as big debates on bringing best people into asset management and how strategic asset management can support growth and regeneration. We also heard from Offer Stern-Weiner, Deputy Director - Building Regulations and Performance Division at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government on the outcomes of the Hackitt Review and the next steps housing associations need to take to ensure they meet the new expectations and requirements.

The only way to balance the competing priorities is to focus on having a detailed understanding of assets and customers. This means improving data quality, utilising new technologies and develop strong relationships across the organisation. The Federation's Customer Experience in Housing (February 2019) and Business Transformation in Housing (April 2019) events will help you achieve this.

The next Asset Maintenance and Management Conference and Exhibition will take place in Birmingham in October 2019. We hope to see you there.
